Bloggishness Saturday, March 01, 2003
Lou first led me to pMachine, the software that this blog is running on. It is a sweet and mature package with superb support from the author. It does many things, IMHO, right. I subsequently had a look at Movable Type, another blog package that has some very strong features. At that point, I was beginning to feel comfortable with pMachine and could spot some shortcomings in MT that caused me to continue with what I was (and still am) using.
Enter Dean Allen of Textism and his new beta product Textpattern Dean is following the idea that people who like to maintain blogs may not want to spend a lot of time learning and using difficult (for many of us), coding methodology. I agree and I think he is really on to something. You can see the beta running at Bozo’s site (first cousin of HB).
I think Bozo is going to continue the journey with this beta package. Despite the early beta issues, the promise of a robust product being developed by a team that seems to understand the needs of the users (much as the team at pMachine does) indicated it will be a fun journey. Stay tuned.
Buy oil! Saturday, March 01, 2003
Dateline March 01 :: Humblebub
By oil stock if you have the money. If I have this right, between today and March 21 we will know if we are at war. My take is that in the next 3 weeks bubba will either lead us into a conflict that makes no sense or we will have an extended period for the talking weenies politicians to work out a compromise. I think it can go either way, but we will know within 3 weeks. Lets see if I am right. Buy oil anyway.
Thursday Thursday, February 27, 2003
There it is, right between Wednesday and Friday. Thursday is usually a good day for me. Things that seem to be going sideways seem to get sorted out on Thursdays. I wonder why that is. Today was a good day, two seemingly unsolvable problems got solved. <?php am happy?> Now if I could just learn php. Maybe a Thursday book.
I want to own words too! Thursday, February 27, 2003
I want to own the word “fuck” - I then charge for useage and get to be quite “fucking rich” - I could be referred to as “that old rich fuck” - I could be told to “go fuck myself”, only to become even more wealthy......

Crime outbreak hits PEI Tuesday, February 25, 2003
We have a custom on the wee island - or at least the wee islanders do. If you have ever passed a person on the street and at least nodded to him / her, then it seems expected that you will go to the wake and funeral when that person passes away. I assume it is a point of respect.
Recently a colleague died suddenly. His wife passed away last year and his remaining family consist of 2 children (whom I do not know) and assorted siblings (whom I do not know). I was feeling guilty that I could not make the two hour commitment to go to the wake, when a friend commented - “why are you feeling guilty? You do not know the grieving family, they do not know you - do you feel the need to go and look at *.* dead in his coffin?”
It occurs to me that the wee islanders or more concerned with ‘being seen’ at the event - rather than being there in support of the grieving family. Next event you go to, watch the people in the line. You tell me.
Premier Monday, February 24, 2003
Since 1851 we have had 43 different premiers on PEI. 24 were Liberal. I would have guessed more.
Until 1924, automobiles drove on the left side of the road on PEI.
