Google has confirmed that it plans to allow American and Canadian users to make free phone calls directly from their Gmail accounts this year, going directly into competition with Skype and other more traditional phone operators.
Voice is very easy to set up – few options and my first few calls have been equal in quality to a corded phone. They do seem to be rolling out in Canada very slowly and the service is not yet enabled on my normal account. There is a work around. Hint – make a US proxy server your friend.
Whoop.. ‘call phone’ just popped up on my normal gmail account.
