Dennis Hooper.  A true classic.

a tired old tart Saturday, May 15, 2010

One of my friends is fond of saying the worst thing a government can have happen to them is have people  laugh at them.  There may be one thing worse and that is to be pitied.

As we hear rumours (which have not been denied) of the government of the day proposing to pay 3/4 of a million dollars to bring a tired old tart entertainer and his blonde brain drain to our little corner of the world, I find myself speechless.

This is inappropriate on so many levels.  We have people who can’t get medial care, people who are denied basic human compassion, corruption and cronyism, basic infrastructure that is falling apart and more scandals that most can keep track of.  Our education system is falling apart and labour is unhappy.

It does not matter if a business case can be made for bringing the tired old tart to Paradise.  The optics are appalling on so many levels and it is just plain unseemly.

What can these people be thinking?  Perhaps it really is one of those more to be pitied than blamed situations.

Laughter and pity.  How sad.

So I’m doing the dating game now and my “deal breaker” is a woman who doesn’t like dogs. Yeah, it’s a bit absolutist but trust me, I learned that lesson the hard way. If you don’t “do” dogs I don’t care is you’re a supermodel - you’re gone. And while some people look askance at my joint custody arrangement, fuck ‘em. They’ll never understand and they’re not worth knowing. Having a dog and taking good care of it is a character reference. And between my ex and me Buster’s one of the best cared for dogs in the Tri-State area.

PEI Farm Mutual Sunday, April 18, 2010

Rukavina shares his joy at getting a cheque from his insurance company.  Good for the PEI Farm Mutual!  They are a respected competitor and they are a great little company.  Like most mutual insurance companies, they share their profit.  After all, the company is a mutual and is owned by the policy holders.  They are well managed and, from my experience, have a great staff and group of agents.

There is the other side to a mutual.  If they have a bad year, they can send their policy holders a bill for their share of the loss.  There are many models of risk sharing – standard insurance (shareholder owned), reciprocals, exchanges etc.  Each have their benefits and each have their peril.

I don’t believe the PEI Farm Mutual has ever sent their owners / policy holders an assessment.  Good for them.  As I mentioned, they are a very well run company.
