Some of the ‘old folks’ will tell you that the higher the nest, the deeper the snow.  A visitor reports that this one is 22 feet from the ground.

September 18, 2008 I made a prediction about the then forthcoming Winter and with the benefit of hindsight I think I was close.  I have been watching my four favourite predictors and there is a mixed message.  One is indicating that it will be an absolute pig of a Winter.  Very cold and very deep snow.  Another is indicating deep snow.  The third is indicating a harsh Winter.  The 4th is indicating that cold weather will arrive a little later than usual.

Considering these indications, here goes

  • November will be cold, but no accumulation of snow.  The average November temperature will be warmer than traditional norms.
  • Early December will be warmer than usual, turning very cold in the last half of the month.  We will have snow accumulation and at least one significant storm in late December.
  • January and February will be colder than usual with more snow than usual.  It will be a nasty two months.
  • March will be frustrating.  We will not ride our motorcycles until very late in the month.  We will have numerous snowfalls that will continue to add to the accumulation.
  • April will continue to be frustrating.  It will be beyond the 15th before we really see signs that Spring is really here.

I use Skype Friday, September 25, 2009

I have not used a conventional telco long distance service for a couple of years.  All of my long distance toll calls are made via Skype.  While the service just gets better and better, there is still the factor of having a head-set, quality bandwidth and a computer.  It is not always convenient.

I have been looking at Jajah

jajah

I opened an account and used it for the first time this morning.  I went to the web page, clicked on my home phone number (as compared to the other two – office and cell) and then clicked on my daughter’s phone number is my address book.  My phone rang.  I picked it up.  My daughters phone rang (in Australia) and she picked up.  We then had our conversation on our conventional telephones.  The quality of communication was as good as I would have experiences if I had called via Bell-Aliant.

One can also ‘attach’ a number to a local number (currently the closest bank of local numbers is Halifax).  Thus if I was in the Halifax area, I can simply call a local number and my daughter’s telephone in Australia rings.

Impressive.

I did not need to know:

It is concluded that the mallards were engaged in an ‘Attempted Rape Flight’ that resulted in the first described case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard.

But at least you now know.

Sex-service number Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Atlantic lobster fishermen in need of financial help got quite a surprise Tuesday when they were directed to a toll-free number that was supposed to detail an aid package but which connected them to a lusty sex line instead.
