Al is talking about changes in weblog - such things as group blogs and specific blogs. At the same time I have been thinking about similar possibilities and wondering if there is a way to bring weblogs back in to a community similar to that which existed in the BBS community.
This caused a flashback to a conversation I had with an old friend, Dr. Linda Gilkeson as she mused about how often thought and discovery seems to develop along similar (sometimes identical) lines and different parts of the world. She observed that often significant research discoveries were made at almost the identical time when neither party knew the other was working on the project.

Pause your mouse over your name in the article. Heck, I was way ahead of you. It is futile to resist.

I have been thinking of this a lot as well. It looks as if the bureaucrats will can the Best Start program (see more on my blog soon) that helps new parents. I am so fed up with begging and being in their thrall that I am convinced that only a community based approach will work. hence I am wondering how we could build a network where parents can help other parents.

Rob, I would think the monitored BBS would be much more useful a basic structure than a blog as it is much more chatty and less of the uni-voice. Your participants are going to want to feel tey each have an equal place in the web space you are creating for them.

Back in the BBS days it was always a struggle to fine a ‘common’ interest that would bring visitors to the meeting place. There was also a different demographic - I.E. younger - being the ones who were embracing the tech. Heck - the then 13 year old Silver Orange folks were avid users.
More thought is needed but I too would be interested in following along this thread.
