There are times I despair over Trek’s apparent lack of, hmmmm, intelligence.  He does things his way.  Herself was away, so I decided, “Boy, time you learned a few more things”.  It was time to introduce him to jumps.  One of the standard methods is to place the dog in a sit in front of the jump and hold a favourite toy over the jump, encouraging the dog to clear the jump and grab the toy while passing over.

I think he figured out what I had in mind, as he went and hid in the garden.  Guess he figured I could not see him.

I encouraged him out and commenced the exercise.  Of course, he chose to walk around the jump and take the toy.  I repeated the exercise 4 more times (with great patience and encouragement) and had the same outcome.

On the 6 attempt, he looked at me carefully, peered at the toy in my hand carefully and glared at the jump.  He then approached the jump, lifted his leg and peed on the jump, then took the jump in his teeth with a deep growl and dragged it across the lawn.  He then returned and gently took the toy from my hand which was shaking hard as I was almost unable to stand I was laughing so hard.

Perhaps my boy is not so dumb after all.

As an aside, despite the fact he is very rough with her, Roschka has decided that he is her favourite.
