I saw on the news this evening that Ireland is the first country to implement a nation-wide no- smoking -in- public ban. Do you suppose Australia is going to follow their lead?

Nope..they are really quite supportive of smokers at least having some rights here. ..and for those wondering, cigs cost $10 here for a pack of 30.

France tried a ban in bars and bistros and I remember watching the gendarmes coming in and lighting up their Gitanes. Of course, you are talking about a country that puts ads in the paper to warn the locals the police will be doing random breath tests - that way they only catch German tourists. In Ireland the shebeen serves much the same purpose as the bootlegger here and I imagine they will do as well out of the smoking ban.
