I did my last PEI income taxes today. I was surprised to see that I had to fill out mirroring forms to calculate PEI’s cut. I finsihed up a degree in 2002 so I got to claim expenses. [Used to be one did their Federal taxes and just calculated provincial as a simple percent of the federal.] I was happy to see that under Federal tax rules, I get a $400.00 per month tax credit. Under PEI, however, I only get $200.00. So lets review. PEI decides it needs its own income tax bureaucrats. So it needs to set lower tax credits to pay for the bureaucrats. And the tax it cuts is the one which encourages education. Why need edjeekated people if you can get a gov’ment job - as long as you openly support the governing party that is!
