Good news for men with very attractive partners: You’re probably having more sex—“in-pair copulation,” in scientific terms—than other guys.
But the reason, according to a new study, is that you’re doing it to mark your territory and hold on to a partner who’s more likely to be pursued by other men and put you at risk for being cheated on.
It may seem obvious that more attractive partners inspire more frequent sex, but Farnaz Kaighobadi, a PhD student in the evolutionary psychology lab at Florida Atlantic University, says the reasons are found in our cave-dwelling past and run much deeper than simply thinking your mate is hot.
Men reported they have sex with their partners an average of 3.3 times in a typical week, she says, and they assigned them an average attractiveness rating of 7.9 on a scale of 0 to 9.
Hmmmm, the point 3 is interesting.
